We have the highest welfare standards and grow our herd using traditional practices as nature intended.

Our cows are slow-grown and outdoor-reared, with access to ample shelter, all year around.

They graze on pastures consisting of grass, clover and other wild plants which enriches the meat with natural nutrients.

Our beef is flavoursome and incredibly nutritious.

Our meat is dry-aged for 21 days, which improves taste and texture. It is then prepared and vacuum-packaged by our local family-run butchers, ready to be enjoyed!

Our meat is high in omega-3s and other healthy fatty acids such as linoleic acid. It is also richer in vitamins and minerals than supermarket-grade meat.

The Heylen Herd is a family-run farm with Sussex pedigree cattle.

Our herd has been grazing several large fields in the foothills of the Chantries, near Shalford, for over a decade. They are cared for by our small team, who take pride in what they do!

The environment is incredibly important to us, and we are proud to be a carbon-negative farm. We never use any hormones, pesticides or other chemicals.

You can buy any combination of cuts, in any quantity. We have our great value "Beef Boxes", or you can mix and match your favourite cuts to create your own custom-tailored box.

After the meat has been dry-hung for 21 days, all of our meat is vacuum-packed and flash-frozen by our butcher at the point of preparation. We have regular "beef collection days" in Shalford, which we inform people of through our mailing list.

If you are unable to make it to one of our collection days or need meat quicker, we can deliver this within a 10-mile radius for a fee, or arrange collection in Shalford (GU4 8BU), at a time that suits you.

We are mainly a beef cattle farm, but we do also have a lovely little herd of sheep that enjoy grazing the fields one step behind the cattle. If you live nearby, you might see the ram spending time with some of our cows outside of mating season!

Our sheep herd are all pasture-fed, slow-grown and outdoor-reared, just like our cows. The lamb is then dry-aged for 7 days - the optimum time for lamb!
